Aluminium Systems for Commercial Buildings

Commercial aluminium glazing is a family of complete building systems rather than a catalogue of isolated frame sections. Windows, curtain walling, entrance surrounds, shopfront glazing, insulated glass units, gaskets, pressure plates, seals, drainage paths, hardware and perimeter interfaces must all work together. The right route depends on the existing construction, the condition of each component and the performance required from the finished building envelope.

Alu-Glaze surveys, repairs, refurbishes and installs specified commercial aluminium window and glazing systems. We work with established system manufacturers and specialist fabricators where new components are required; we do not claim to manufacture proprietary aluminium profiles ourselves. This survey-led approach helps clients decide whether targeted repair, a wider refurbishment, a glazing upgrade or complete system replacement is proportionate.

Our work supports offices, schools, healthcare estates, hotels, retail premises, leisure venues, industrial buildings and other occupied commercial assets nationwide. Access, safety, programme, weather protection and disruption are considered alongside the technical repair or installation itself.

Repair, Upgrade or Replace?

Local hardware failure, isolated glass damage, degraded gaskets, blocked drainage or a failed seal may be repairable where the primary frame remains serviceable. Wider corrosion, movement, obsolete components, recurring water ingress or inadequate safety and thermal performance can justify a broader refurbishment or replacement programme. The recommendation should follow inspection of the complete system and its interfaces rather than the visible symptom alone.

Existing frames may sometimes accept replacement insulated glass units, renewed seals, new hardware, recoating or other targeted improvements. Compatibility, drainage, glass weight, edge cover and remaining service life must be checked before an upgrade is specified. Where condition is uncertain, begin with our surveys and technical reports service to establish an evidence-based scope.

Energy-focused projects can also review insulated glass, secondary glazing, solar-control measures and interface improvements through our glazing upgrades for energy efficiency service. Proposed performance should be assessed at whole-window or whole-system level rather than from the glass alone.

What a Survey Can Cover

Inspection scope is selected around the reported defect, building type, available records and the level of evidence needed for repair planning or procurement.

Frames, Profiles & Fixings

Condition, movement, corrosion, coating breakdown, joints, anchors and interfaces with adjacent construction.

Glass & Insulated Units

Cracks, impact damage, seal failure, misting, safety requirements, glass build-up and replacement compatibility.

Gaskets, Sealants & Drainage

Shrinkage, hardening, failed joints, blocked routes, weep paths and likely water-ingress mechanisms.

Hardware & Operation

Hinges, stays, locks, handles, restrictors, gearing, actuators, alignment and safe operation.

What About Commercial Aluminium Doors?

Complete commercial entrance-door systems involve the door leaf, frame, pivots or hinges, closer or operator, locks, access control, safety devices and ongoing servicing. These are delivered by our specialist sister company, Door Engineers. Alu-Glaze does not present replacement glass in an existing shopfront as a complete door installation.

Where an entrance issue spans both the door and its surrounding glazing, the scopes can be coordinated so the doorset, glass and aluminium interfaces are each handled by the appropriate specialist. Our guide to 12 types of commercial doors explains the main door categories and the factors that affect selection.

For automatic, manual, fire-resisting, security or industrial door enquiries, visit Door Engineers directly. For cracked or failed glass retained within a serviceable shopfront frame, use Alu-Glaze's shopfront route.
